We are pleased to introduce the opening of the Vision Therapy Institute of Florida, founded by Dr. Stefani Martin in 2009. The Institute is the culmination of a lifelong ambition for Dr. Martin. As a child she dreamed of caring for the vision health of children and adults. She always wanted to be an optometrist. Three years ago, when she opened up a private practice in optometry, Ocean Optics, she created a signature vision therapy program. And after growing and expanding the progam, she established the Vision Therapy Institute of Florida. Dr. Martin has created an inviting, family and kid friendly center designed to be an interactive, fun environment where patients can participate in improving their visual health.
The Vision Therapy Institute of Florida serves both adults and children. Dr. Martin’s passion for helping people maximize their full vision potential is the goal for each patient she treats. Dr. Martin has taken additional training in the field of children and vision care. During her schooling at Nova, Dr. Martin completed an internship in children's vision and vision therapy. She is also a member of COVD, the College of Optometrists in Vision Development, which focuses on behavioral optometry and therapy techniques. In addition, her undergraduate degree is in psychology which enhances her behavioral approach to vision therapy.
In individually-tailored therapy sessions, Dr. Martin works with each patient one-on-one to carefully and progressively meet each of their specific needs. Therapy sessions typically include visual tasks performed under controlled conditions. For children, it seems like play time since the therapy is created to be age-specific. At times, lenses, prisms and special equipment may be used along with a wide variety of activities to create different visual environments.
